Why Study Abroad?

Students in Classics are encouraged to study abroad for a semester or year in one of the many programs available. Nothing really prepares you for your first glimpse of the Parthenon after walking up the Acropolis in Athens, for seeing the Roman forum amidst the umbrella pines, or for becoming acquainted with the countless artifacts and sites known to us otherwise through books and images. Because of this, a semester or year abroad will immeasurably enhance your Classical education, and expose you to ancient and modern cultures, different approaches to Classics, and various fields of specialization in a way otherwise impossible (not to mention polishing your academic resume, should you be considering graduate school).

Where Should I Study Abroad?

Classics students can make progress on their degrees while enjoying the benefits of studying abroad at one of a number of programs located at major Classical sites, or at a university in Europe (and elsewhere) offering such programs. Each of the following offers study abroad programs ranging from several weeks to a full year (don’t be misled by the names: “College Year in Athens” for instance also offers semester-long programs).
